Winter League Final Preview
Posted on 17 Feb '26 at 08:06 by Gary Ryan

Finally, after 7 weeks we have our two finalists. The Rhinos and The Unknowns. Both Finalists have gone through tough groups along with a marathon day last weekend for the quarter and the semifinals.

The Teams

v

The Rhinos – Noel Ryan, Tracey Smith, Shay Harpur and Evelyn O'Gorman

The Unknowns – David Hargadon, Barbara Coogan, Dave Perry and Brian Hargadon

Singles Matchups

Noel Ryan v David Hargadon

HC Difference of 7 which gives David 5 shots. Hole 3,6,7,15 and 16.

With 5 shots David will have Noel under some early pressure and if he keeps playing the way he has been he is going to be very hard to beat but Noel has won the winter leagues before and has been in a few finals over the years so will the experience be what gets him over the line.

Tracey Smith v Barbara Coogan

HC difference of 8 which will give Barbara 6 shots. Holes 3,6,7,12,15 and 16.

What a great match this is. Yes, there is a difference in handicaps but that makes this match very exciting. Tracey who is a Dublin Intercounty winner will have her work cut out for her as Barbara has been playing extremely well all the way through the winter leagues. This game I think could come down to the wire and maybe even end in a tie but I think it will be full of excitement.

Shay Harpur v Dave Perry

HC Difference of 6 giving Dave 5 Shots. Hole 3,6,7,15 and 16.

Again, we have a very tight game where I think the shots will come into play here. Shay will have to be at his best to beat Dave who will be experiencing his first final since joining the club. Another very tight game which could go either way and I am predicting this to go the Full 18.

Evelyn O'Gorman v Brian Hargadon

Handicap difference of 3 which will give Brian 2 shots. Hole 7 and 16.

Could it all come down to this match. Evelyn has been playing extremely well all the way through the groups and into the knockout stages. Brian has had a gauntlet of games too having some very difficult matches. The closest of all the games with regards to shots so again I think this could be one of the games to watch.

Come up and support both teams in our first final of 2026.
